The Diamond Kings 10U team from Chandler, Arizona recently excelled in the 11U AAA division at the USSSA Strike Out Cancer tournament in Peoria, Arizona, held October 12-13th, marking an emotional and significant tournament victory for the team. Last year, while competing in the tournament, the Kings dedicated their weekend to a team mom who was courageously battling cancer. This year, the team joyously celebrated her remission with a Championship win.
This tournament is an annual reminder for the Diamond Kings that baseball is more than just a game – it’s an opportunity that bounds together a community through both victories and challenges.
“The Diamond Kings aren’t just a baseball team; we’re a family that extends beyond the diamond,” shared Dominick Evidente, coach of the Diamond Kings. “Whether we’re on the baseball field or supporting each other through life’s ups and downs, we stand together.”
With nine returning players, many of whom have been teammates since they were just four or five years old, it’s evident the bond within this team is strong. The Kings designate that chemistry and camaraderie as the foundation of their success, and a contributing factor to the team walking away with a tournament win while playing up an age division.
Tournament Director Cory Perreault echoed the importance of teamwork in both baseball and life. “This event stands as a powerful reminder that, much like in baseball, teamwork and perseverance are essential in the fight against cancer. Through team participation, we have not only celebrated the love of the game but also raised awareness for this crucial cause.”
The Diamond Kings dedicated their walk-off win at the Strike Out Cancer tournament to all those who have fought or are currently battling cancer. Whether they’re celebrating a walk-off home run or supporting a teammate through a difficult time, the Diamond Kings are a great reminder that some of the greatest victories come from the unity and support shared between teammates, coaches, and families.
The Diamond Kings 10U, carrying an undefeated season, are lead by Head Coach Dominick Evidente. The roster includes Isaac Barbosa, Decker Denny, Rhys DiPanfilo, Kai Evidente, Waylon Golightly, Logan Greene, Carter Hanson, Brix Lane, Brixon Lane, Joey Larussa, Tucker Miller, and Joe Strongoli.
