Girls Golf Kicks Off Season At Miracle Hills

Logan Fey, Sports Writer

The Warriors took a trip to Miracle Hills Golf Course for their first tournament of the new season. The team shot a total score of 318, which is only two strokes shy of the school record. Junior Chloe DiPrima and Sophomore Kendall Lauritzen both shot a 76 which put them at 5th place, and was Kendalls lowest career score. Both Audrey Nielsen, and Audrey Freeman shot an 87. Coach Jered Hellman shared his thoughts on the team’s performance.

“We had a great start to the season with our first event. The Westside Girls’ golf team shot a total score of 318, which is only two strokes shy of the historic school record. I couldn’t be happier with our performance.”

Senior Addison Benge shared her thoughts on the team’s performance.

“I believe the tournament went really well, This just shows us how much talent we’re working with this year,” Benge said. “All of our players have worked really hard in the offseason to come back this year better and stronger after our runner up season at state last year”

Benge had a solid round, shooting a 79 and placed 10th overall

Sophomore Audrey Nielsen had the shot of the day after she hit an 80 yard shot for an eagle.

Coach Hellman talked about the teams’ perseverance during the tournament.

“the best part of the day was seeing how the girls handled adversity. Our number two player and senior leader, Addison Benge, made a triple bogey on her first hole after a beautiful drive. In years past, she might have slumped her shoulders or reacted more negatively, but she kept her composure,” Hellman. “She maintained a positive attitude, battled for the next four hours, and posted a solid score. I saw the same mental toughness from the other four girls, which shows me they are buying into our team’s emotional management and focusing on the next shot.”

“We often talk about trusting the process and how golf, like other sports, has its ups and downs. However, no other sport requires that kind of mental resilience for the length of time that golf does. These girls were truly impressive.”  Hellman said.

The Warriors play their next tournament at the Beatrice Country Club.
