On a night meant to honor Omaha Central’s seniors, the Eagles came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Bellevue East, despite out-hitting the Chieftains 11 to 4.

Pitching struggles were a key factor, with Central issuing five walks and hitting four batters, giving Bellevue East extra opportunities throughout the game. Still, the Eagles stayed in control early, scoring in the first and second innings to take a 2-1 lead. Defensively, senior Antonio Estes had a phenomenal night in right field—highlighted by a diving catch, a double play on a fly ball, and a strike to home plate to cut down a would-be run.

After Bellevue East tied the game in the fourth, both teams were quiet until the sixth. Central surged in the bottom half, beginning with a hit from senior Joe Sullivan and a walk from senior Ethan Ferguson. Fellow senior Marcus Kane came through in the clutch with a two-RBI single, putting the Eagles up 4-3.

But the Chieftains responded in the top of the seventh, piecing together three critical hits—including a go-ahead RBI knock from Tanner Miller—to jump ahead 5-4. Despite Central’s strong night at the plate, they left 12 runners on base and couldn’t mount a final comeback in the seventh.

District brackets for the NSAA postseason will be released tomorrow. Follow our social media for updates as the Eagles prepare for their playoff run.
